Card Counting History

In the book entitled "Playing Black as Business",Lawrence Revere claimed that he developed a blackjack strategy in the year 1954. If this is true, this would be the first blackjack strategy made eight years before that of Thorp. Lawrence emphasized that this system mainly applied a plus and minus strategy which predominantly focused on counting all the 9s, 10s and an Ace less one, the rest of them at +1 and all the remaining 8s as 0.He also went on to develop a specific type of point count or the Hi/Low method. Thorp's famous 10 count strategy was passed 3yrs after Lawrence's 10 counting strategy developed in the year 1959. Lawrence had also been the pioneer in developing the 5 count strategy.

Contribution of Thorp and Others

The aforementioned 5 and 10 count strategies were also introduced by Dr. Thorp entitled "Beat the Dealer" in the year 1962; the book also contained some of his primary research in this field. However, the 5 and 10 counting systems mentioned by Thorp were different from the versions presented by Revere.

After a time span of 10 years, Harvey Dubner proposed his own Hi/Low counting system, which was evidently based on findings of Julian Braun and Dr. Thorp. This system was also the first of its kind to be ever published, followed by Thorp's second varying system launched in the year 1966, referred to as the point count. The version launched by Braun was called Plus/Minus system. However, the Hi/Low method is still the golden standard which is being followed everywhere. Another variation of the High/Low method was mentioned by Stanford Wong in the year 1977, in the book entitled "Professional Blackjack". Wong also mentioned about the "Wong Halves" in this book. The Wong half was founded on the Level 3 systems.

Blackbelt of Blackjack

Arnold Snyder developed an unbalanced Red 7 strategy in the year 1983, in his book "Blackbelt of Blackjack". In this strategy, Snyder added a one to all the numbers from 2 to 6, plus 1 to all the red 7s, counted all black 7s as 0, 8s and 9s as 0, while subtracting 1 from all 10s and Aces. This ultimately meant that you are required to count from 0 until the entire deck is complete, which will end with +2. The major purpose of this unbalanced number was to help you get an estimate of the total number of the decks, which must still be played. This helps the player eliminate any possible errors in calculating the particular decks of cards or converting from a running count towards the true count.
