Lingo Game

Lingo premiered as an USA television game show and has multiple international adaptations in many countries such as France and United Kingdom. The first version of the American Lingo Game Show was aired in syndication from the year 1987 to 1988. Then, the second version of Lingo was run on GSN being an original series for six sessions between 2002 and 2007. Finally, the third version has been airing on GSN since June 6, 2011. Typically, this game normally features two teams each comprising of two contestants and each tries to guess 5 letter words while using colored balls for marking their 5x5 lingo card.

In the Lingo Game Show, the contestants attempt to cover 5 spaces in row similar to the normal bingo game. The GSN versions have proved to be more popular than the earlier 1987 version but the main game has close similarities to the original version only that the goal is scoring the most points possible rather than being the first player to complete the game. The team of contestants at the left podium usually starts the game and each team is provided with a Lingo card that shows 25 numbers in which ten numbers will be marked off.

The teams playing the American Lingo Game Show are given five chances for guessing a mystery word which control other team’s passes. In case the team happens to run out of time or uses an illegal world, they will be given a bonus letter by the other team. The team which guesses correctly the mystery word gets 25 points and will then proceed to drawing two balls from a hopper placed on their front. The red balls are used for forfeiting the other team’s control and there are really no prize balls like in the original version.

The team that completes a Lingo earns 50 points. The American Lingo Game Show is played in two rounds and the team having the higher score moves to play the Bonus Lingo. The teams are required to ring in and the say correct word otherwise an incorrect guess simply locks the team out and the opposing team will get a free letter from the team. In case the team really doesn’t know the world, this will make their opponents unlocked where everybody gets a chance of guessing until one team guesses ultimately the correct word in the Lingo and gets to win the game.
