MIT Team

The 1990s saw the creation of the MIT blackjack team, a team of students who studied in MIT and this seemingly new team managed to scoop millions of dollars from a large chunk of casinos located in Las Vegas merely in a matter of a few years. Although, there are no exact details, but the sum is thought to be around $4 million.

How Did it Begin?

Initially, this bright bunch of people was not interested in making money using the card counting tactics. Their interest was only limited to enjoying a fine game of blackjack. This team of blackjack had outstanding skills in mathematics and had exceptional engineering knowledge. The team had started practicing their card counting skills as a way to study probabilities of the game. These previously old fashioned bunches of MIT students made a major breakthrough in the casino industry in the early 1990s. To polish blackjack's card counting skills, this particular group of people gathered and practiced blackjack in their empty classrooms every week. They also went to the extent of creating an entire fake casino in certain warehouses and apartments spread across Boston.

Similar to Ken Uston's team in the 1980s, this particular blackjack team used their fake casinos and other simulated scenarios for the purpose of perfecting their skills. They also had the pestering Pit bosses similar to the casinos in Las Vegas, while they practiced card counting. The entire team went through a gruesome process and ultimately they succeeded in honing the skills required to beat the casinos with the help of card counting strategies. The team also successfully learned all the variants involved in the game of blackjack and the inherent rules, but they did not end their quest there and they went on to rule the casinos in Las Vegas.

The Card Counting System

The major tactic applied by the team was the card counting strategy, which they had succeeded in excelling. They were also the pioneers in applying the "Ace Tracking" as well as the "Shuffle Tracking" strategy to increase their chances of payout. In "Shuffle Tracking", the theory assumes that when dealers shuffle cards, certain cards do not shuffle properly as result of which the game is not completely randomized following a shuffle. This ultimately results in certain packs of the cards staying together, which the blackjack team succeeded in predicting. These packs had both high and low valued cards.

Beating the Casino

"Big Players" are those who can beat the casino as well as count simultaneously. The blackjack team from MIT also consisted of some big players who could disguise themselves in an elegant and stylish way. The team players could count and apply their strategies at the same time; this helped them tremendously in boosting bankroll for them.
